Research Project Disciplined Subjects: Education and Subjectivity in Colonial Bengal
About:Dr. Sutapa Dutta is a Fellow at IIAS, Shimla, and teaches English at Gargi College, University of Delhi. She has done her M.A., M. Phil and Ph. D from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her research interests and publications are focused on eighteenth-century writings andissues related toculture, identity and representation. Her works cover Missionary writings,especiallylanguage and literature in colonial Bengal.
In 2014 she received an Early Career Fellowship by the International Society for Eighteenth Century Studies (ISECS) and Manchester University, U.K. for her research work on Missionary Writings in Colonial Bengal. In 2016 she received a grant from the British Society for Eighteenth Century Studies (BSECS) for research work at Oxford University,U.K. In 2016-17 she received a Research Project grant from the University Grants Commission(UGC) to work on the project Early Vernacular Dialogue Books: Language and Identity in Colonial Bengal.
She has presented many papers in national and international conferences and has published more than twenty book chapters and papers in reputed journals. Her recently published book istitled British Women Missionaries in Bengal, 1793-1861, Anthem Press, U.K., 2017. She is the President of India International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (IISECS).
